What This Article Covers

A quick overview before you dive in:

  • Our current installation prices, from $1,050 + GST for single phase and $1,350 + GST for three phase, what a standard installation includes and the conditions behind the prices.
  • How the cable run from your switchboard to the charger changes the price, with the add-ons for runs over 10 and over 20 metres.
  • What the charger itself costs if we supply it, the optional surge protection, and what happens if you've already bought a charger.
  • When your switchboard needs work first, when three phase power is worth it, and what those upgrades typically cost.
  • Other things that can affect the price, such as asbestos, pedestals and enclosures, and where to check for current rebates.
  • What we check before we book, why the work needs a licensed electrician, how long an installation takes, whether we install DC fast chargers, and how to get your price in about a minute.

The price of a home EV charger depends on your power supply, how far the charger is from your switchboard, whether your switchboard has room for a new circuit and the charger you choose. This guide goes through each one, with the prices Impulse Electrical Enterprise charges in Sydney.

Starting Prices and What's Included

All prices in this guide are current as of October 2026.

Installation

Single phase

Three phase

Standard installation (up to 10 metres of cable from the switchboard)

From $1,050 + GST

From $1,350 + GST

Installation prices include up to 10 metres of cable from the switchboard. They assume your switchboard has enough spare capacity and there's reasonable access for the cable. The charger, longer cable runs and surge protection cost extra, and switchboard work, pedestals and enclosures are quoted separately. Your final price is confirmed before we book the installation.

A standard installation includes:

  • Checking your switchboard has room for the charger.
  • A dedicated circuit with its own safety switch protection.
  • An isolator near the charger.
  • Mounting the charger, and setting it up and showing you the app where the charger has one.
  • Testing and your Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW).

How the Cable Run Changes the Price

Two things move the price more than anything else: how long the cable run is and whether your switchboard is ready for a charger. Beyond the 10 metres included, longer runs cost more:

Cable run

Single phase

Three phase

Over 10 and up to 20 metres

Add $350 + GST

Add $475 + GST

Over 20 metres

Add $650 + GST

Add $950 + GST

Where the cable goes also affects the price, whether that's through the ceiling, under the floor or along a wall.

What the Charger Costs

Unless you already own a charger, it's an extra cost on top of installation. If we supply it, these are our charger prices:

Charger

Price

Ocular LTE Plus V3 (7 kW single phase or 22 kW three phase)

From $694 + GST

Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector

$800 + GST

Ocular IQ Home Solar (7 kW single phase or 22 kW three phase)

From $1,195 + GST

Zappi Multiphase

$1,494 + GST

Optional surge protection is $399 + GST on single phase or $853 + GST on three phase. Solar-ready models, the Ocular IQ Home Solar and the Zappi, can use surplus solar to charge the car, provided your inverter and monitoring equipment support it. We check that before you choose.

If you've already bought a charger, we check it suits your home and switchboard before we install it. Our workmanship warranty covers the installation, and the charger itself is covered through the place you bought it.

When Your Switchboard Needs Work First

A charger runs on its own circuit and safety switch, so an old or full switchboard may need work before the charger goes in. A full board replacement typically costs $1,200 to $4,000+ + GST, and a larger board with room for solar, a battery or an EV charger typically costs $4,000 to $7,000+ + GST. Those prices assume suitable existing wiring and reasonable access to the board, and extra work is quoted separately. The price for a switchboard upgrade is confirmed in a free, fixed quote before we start.

Single or Three Phase Charging

Single phase power suits a charger of up to 7 kW, which covers overnight charging at home. Three phase power allows an 11 kW or 22 kW charger. Many EVs charge at up to 11 kW on AC, so confirm what your car can accept before you choose a 22 kW unit. If you don't know whether you have single or three phase power, a photo of your switchboard is enough for us to tell you.

If you'd like to move to three phase, a 3 phase switchboard upgrade typically costs $7,000 to $11,000+ + GST. That price assumes reasonable access to your switchboard and meter. Any network charges are separate, and your price is confirmed in a free, fixed quote before we start.

Other Things That Can Affect the Price

  • Pedestals and enclosures. If the charger can't go on a wall, a pedestal or enclosure is quoted separately.
  • Asbestos. Some older switchboards are mounted on a backing panel that contains asbestos. If we find one, you can engage your own appropriately licensed asbestos removalist, or we can help coordinate a suitable specialist, and we explain your options before any work starts. Don't drill, cut or otherwise disturb anything that may contain asbestos.
  • Rebates. Government programs change over time, and each program on the Service NSW electric vehicles hub has its own eligibility rules and dates, so check them before you buy.

What We Check Before We Book

We check your power supply, switchboard and cable route before we book, and we may ask for a photo of your switchboard. In NSW, electrical wiring work must be done by a licensed electrician, so an EV charger isn't a DIY job.

Questions About Home EV Charger Costs in Sydney

How long does an EV charger installation take?

Expect a few hours on site for most home installations. Allow more time if the cable run is long or your switchboard needs work first.

Do you install DC fast chargers?

No. We install AC chargers, not DC fast chargers, for homes, apartments, strata buildings and businesses. For an apartment or strata building, we check switchboard capacity, metering, approvals and access first.
